The junior sportswriter role involves

‍

• Working rostered sports reporting shifts across weekdays, evenings, and weekends
• Reporting breaking news stories in a way that fits The 42’s tone and voice
• Minute-by-minute reporting of major sporting events in an engaging, entertaining way
• Pitching ideas for daily news coverage that provide The 42 with a point of difference
• Distribution of stories through social media channels with maximum impact

The successful candidate will

‍

• Be a passionate reader of top-quality sportswriting, and aspire to produce the same
• Be able to write quickly, cleanly, and accurately under deadline pressure
• Have a broad sporting knowledge, and be comfortable working across the full spectrum of sports
• Have a strong sense of what makes a story newsworthy, and how best it can be presented
• Be familiar with how market-leading news organisations use digital storytelling tools to connect with their audience
• Be keen to learn and develop their skills with guidance from senior journalists and editorial management
• Be available to work from Journal Media’s offices in Dublin city centre
